The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has requested a response from the Centre and other relevant authorities concerning a petition that challenges the environmental clearance for the proposed Adani Infra Vizag Hyperscale Data Centre project in Visakhapatnam.

Former Communist Party of India (Marxist) corporator Boddu Gangarao filed the appeal against the environmental clearance. This clearance was issued on June 10, 2026, for the planned 512-MW facility.

The project is projected to cost ₹17,700 crore and is intended to span 601.4 acres. The proposed location is within Adivivaram and Mudasarlova villages.

The petition raises questions about the environmental appraisal process. It also highlights concerns regarding the project's close proximity to the Kambalakonda Wildlife Sanctuary.

The petitioner has also pointed out the potential impact of the project on the Mudasarlova reservoir, which serves as a major source of drinking water for Visakhapatnam. The Centre and other authorities are now expected to provide their responses to the NGT.
