A 52-year-old farmer, Padhane Ravi, from Bhoraj village in Jainath Mandal of Adilabad district, died by suicide on Monday. He took this extreme step due to distress over poor crop yield.

Ravi had attempted suicide on October 16 by consuming poison. He passed away yesterday while undergoing treatment at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).

Ravi cultivated cotton, soybean, and other crops on his four-acre landholding and eight acres of leased land. However, the cotton crop suffered from poor growth due to adverse weather conditions.

His wife alleged that he was deeply distressed about the crop yield and worried about achieving a good harvest. This concern led to his extreme step.

Jainath Sub Inspector P Gautham stated that Ravi consumed poison on October 17, feeling depressed over the yield, and subsequently died yesterday.

Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident. Villagers are urging the government to support the farmer's family.
