Hyderabad police have seized a significant quantity of banned Chinese manja from a kite shop owner. Task Force officers confiscated 480 bobbins of Mono Gold synthetic nylon glass-coated manja in Hyderabad.

The seized manja is estimated to be worth approximately ₹7.5 lakh, according to The Hindu. The shop owner had allegedly procured this banned stock from Rajasthan.

The seizure took place on October 8, 2026, as reported by The Hindu. Police stated that the confiscated items included 10 cartons containing the 480 bobbins.

Chinese manja, known for its glass coating, is banned due to its harmful effects on the environment, birds, and humans. Despite the ban, some traders continue to illegally sell these products.

This incident highlights the ongoing issue of illegal trade and use of banned manja in Hyderabad. Given its increased usage during festive seasons, authorities need to maintain vigilance.
