Construction work is advancing on the six-lane, access-controlled Bengaluru-Vijayawada Expressway. This project is a key component of the Bharatmala Pariyojana Phase-II.
The wider corridor includes both new greenfield construction and upgrades to existing highways. This comprehensive approach aims to enhance connectivity and travel efficiency.
The expressway project is designed to cut travel time between Bengaluru and Vijayawada. The current journey of 11-12 hours is expected to be reduced to approximately six hours.
An official from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) estimated the travel time would be around six to seven hours. The expressway is also intended to improve the movement of both passengers and freight.
A substantial greenfield section, spanning approximately 342-343 kilometers, forms the core of the project. This stretch runs from Kodikonda, near the Andhra Pradesh-Karnataka border, to Muppavaram, close to Addanki.
The completion of this expressway is anticipated to strengthen the transportation network between the two states. It will also contribute to regional economic development.
