The Centre has approved APTRANSCO's ₹27,370-crore plan to expand Andhra Pradesh's power transmission network, Business Standard reported on Sunday. The project falls under Phase III of the Green Energy Corridor (GEC-III) and aims to bring more solar and wind power onto the grid. A government source said the first phase should be commissioned by 2029-30.
What the project covers
- 7,872 circuit km of 400 kV and 220 kV lines, and 9,500 MVA of substation capacity
- Pooling stations at Mudigubba and Talupula (5 GW each) and Porumamilla (1 GW)
- New 400 kV substations at Ramayapatnam and Koppaka
- Links to renewable energy zones in Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai and Prakasam districts
Two different figures
On 19 October, Deccan Chronicle reported AP's share under the scheme as ₹21,838 crore: a grant of about ₹7,207 crore and ₹14,631 crore in loans. Neither report explains the gap between the two figures.
Background
The Union Cabinet approved GEC-III on 30 September. The national scheme costs ₹1,86,405 crore, with ₹54,082 crore in central support, and is due for completion by 2032-33. Citing the Central Electricity Authority, Business Standard said AP's peak demand will rise from 15,600 MW in 2025-26 to 30,927 MW in 2035-36.
