The Andhra Pradesh government has declared 388 mandals across 21 districts as drought-affected areas for the Kharif 2026 season. Of these, 283 mandals are in the severe drought category, while 105 are in the moderate drought category.

According to prabhanews.com, all 24 mandals in Chittoor district are in the severe drought category. The southwest monsoon season has seen severe drought conditions.

The government assessed the impact of the drought, which began with a rainfall deficit, on crop cultivation, soil moisture, reservoir levels, and groundwater through various indicators.

Prabhanews.com reports that the area under Kharif crops in Chittoor district has significantly decreased, and groundwater levels have depleted. Streams, rivulets, tanks, and ponds have dried up, leading to a scarcity of drinking water for livestock.

All mandals in the district, except for Nindra, Vijayapuram, Nagari, and Palasamudram, are on the drought list. The drinking water problem has already begun in the district.

These drought conditions will severely impact agriculture, drinking water, fodder, and rural life in Chittoor district. Government measures will be crucial in providing relief to the people in these areas.
