A student died and several others were injured after a lighting structure collapsed during Dandiya celebrations at MVSR Engineering College in Nadargul on October 18, 2026. The incident occurred during the college's Dasara festivities.
The accident has brought to light serious concerns regarding safety standards at events organized by educational institutions. Questions are being raised about how colleges plan events that increasingly resemble commercial spectacles.
This reported accident is not an isolated incident. Less than two months prior, a sound equipment structure collapsed during a pre-release event for actor Yash’s film ‘Toxic’ at Malla Reddy University in Maisammaguda, injuring several people.
That earlier incident had already raised concerns about crowd management and the safety of temporary infrastructure used for large campus events, highlighting a recurring issue.
Nagaraju, secretary of the Student Federation of India, said the previous episode failed to serve as a warning. He alleged that colleges are conducting these events as a business venture.
These repeated incidents emphasize the urgent need for educational institutions to review and enhance their safety protocols for student events.
