Five women drowned in the Gollapalli Reservoir in Sri Sathya Sai district on Friday during a family outing. The tragic incident occurred in Penukonda mandal, near the Kia plant.
The deceased have been identified as Gayatri (50), her daughter Ashwini (23), Pushpalatha (29), and the mother-daughter duo Haseena (43) and Maheen (17). They were part of a group of neighbours who had gone to enjoy the scenic beauty of the dam.
The incident has caused profound grief among the families and local residents. Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the drowning.
Police have registered a case and are conducting further inquiries into the matter. The bodies were recovered and sent for post-mortem examination.
Officials have urged the public to exercise caution when visiting water bodies to prevent such unfortunate incidents in the future.
