The Congress government is causing hardship for farmers who cultivated pulses and oilseeds instead of paddy. Despite harvests arriving in markets by October 19, 2026, the government is refusing to purchase their produce.

While an estimated 50,000 tonnes of green gram are expected to be produced across the state, only 30 tonnes have been purchased so far. Farmers are bringing their produce to market, but Markfed is declining to buy it.

Markfed officials are creating difficulties for farmers, citing a lack of Fair Average Quality (FAQ) norms for crop procurement. This has left farmers struggling to sell their harvest.

The central government has only approved the purchase of 10,000 tonnes of green gram. Consequently, only four procurement centers have been opened in the state.

In the open market, the price of green gram has fallen by half. Farmers are appealing to the government, urging them to purchase their produce.

Farmers who switched from paddy to pulses and oilseeds based on government advice are now facing losses. They are demanding that the government respond immediately and procure their green gram.
