The High Court has ordered a CBI investigation into the disappearance of Sai Krishna, who was in custody. The court also ordered disciplinary proceedings against the police personnel found to be at fault in this case.
The High Court directed the CBI director to immediately register a regular criminal case and entrust the investigation to a senior officer. The order stated that all officials found responsible for custodial violence should be proceeded against and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The DGP was directed to send the complete case records to CBI through a special messenger within a week. These directions came on a habeas corpus petition filed by Sai Krishna’s mother, Gade Vijaya Lakshmi, who initially sought the production of her missing son and later sought a CBI investigation into his disappearance.
Sai Krishna, 25, was apprehended at Markapuram around 3 am on May 6 in connection with pending non-bailable warrants and brought to Krishna Lanka Police Station around 7 am.
This case has significant implications for citizens' rights and police accountability in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The disappearance of an individual in custody raises concerns about public safety, and the judiciary's intervention ensures transparency and justice.
