The Horticulture Department is taking steps to promote oil palm cultivation in Karepalli mandal of Khammam district. This initiative aims to educate farmers about alternative crops and encourage them to shift towards crops that provide long-term income.

Across Karepalli (Singareni) mandal, 176 farmers are already cultivating oil palm on over 500 acres. As farmers show interest in crops that offer long-term income alongside traditional crops, oil palm cultivation is expanding.

In this context, Mudigonda Sravani, Oilfed Field Officer of the Horticulture Department, visited the oil palm plantation cultivated by farmer Surapareddy Vishnuvardhan Reddy in Viswanathapalli Gram Panchayat, Singareni mandal, on Monday.

She thoroughly inspected aspects related to the growth of oil palm plants, cultivation methods, irrigation facilities, and crop management in the plantation. She provided necessary guidance and advice to the farmer.

The officer explained to the cultivators the precautions to be taken for crop development and the assistance provided by the Horticulture Department to oil palm farmers. Officials stated that this would be very beneficial for the farmers.

This initiative offers long-term financial stability to farmers in Telangana, reducing reliance on traditional crops and promoting agricultural diversification.
