A 41-year-old doctor from Ameerpet, Hyderabad, reported losing approximately six lakh rupees to an online fraud. A person she met on a social networking app, claiming to be from South Korea, convinced her to make several payments.
According to Hyderabad Cybercrime police, the complainant was searching for an app to improve her English and learn other languages on September 16, 2026.
She found and installed “MEEFF – Make Global Friends” from the Google Play Store. A few days later, she received a message from someone identifying himself as Gil Seo Jun.
Others, posing as representatives from an international courier service, instructed her to pay for customs clearance for a parcel, leading to further financial loss.
The doctor has filed a complaint with the police. Cybercrime officials have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
