The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) will introduce its 'Dial-a-Green Tanker' service on November 1. This new service will deliver treated sewage water for use in construction and by industrial units.

The initiative aims to conserve potable water by redirecting it from uses that do not require drinking-quality supplies. This move comes amid concerns regarding rainfall, groundwater levels, and reservoir capacities in Hyderabad.

HMWSSB Managing Director K Ashok Reddy stated that the board is preparing this service due to worries about the impact of El Niño and potential water shortages during the upcoming summer season.

The board has identified various potential users for the treated water, including construction sites, industrial facilities, parks, and green belts. Arrangements are being made to supply water to these consumers.

This action by HMWSSB is intended to preserve drinking water during the eight months leading up to the next monsoon, a period when the city's water system could face increased demand.

HMWSSB has already met with representatives from the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India, the Telangana Builders’ Forum, and the National Real Estate Development Council, along with other stakeholders in the construction sector.
