An Indian-origin man in California, who had claimed his wife was taken by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, has been arrested on murder charges. This action followed the discovery of her burned remains by authorities.

Gurinder Singh Gill, 28, was taken into custody on Wednesday. The remains, found in El Dorado County, California, were identified as those of his wife, Jasmine Gill, 30.

Jasmine Gill was last seen at her Sacramento residence on September 30. Her cousin reported her missing to the authorities on October 4.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office released a statement confirming the arrest. The office also noted that the couple was in the process of divorcing and had an ongoing dispute over child custody.

Gill is currently held at the Sacramento County Main Jail. Officials have stated that he is not eligible for bail at this time.
