Demand for fine-variety paddy has seen a significant surge in the erstwhile Karimnagar district. Rice millers and traders are actively approaching farmers to purchase the Kharif crop in advance, offering prices that exceed the government's minimum support price (MSP).

Currently, the government offers an MSP of ₹2,461 per quintal for fine-variety paddy at procurement centers. Additionally, the state government provides a bonus of ₹500, further benefiting farmers.

This increased demand is primarily driven by predictions of prolonged El Nino conditions. Traders are expressing concerns about potential foodgrain shortages in the coming months, prompting them to secure supplies early.

Even though harvesting has not yet commenced, traders and millers are keen to secure supplies directly from farmers. They are offering higher prices to ensure they obtain the desired quantities of paddy.

This situation is proving to be highly beneficial for farmers in the erstwhile Karimnagar district. With both government support and attractive private market prices, farmers are experiencing improved financial returns for their produce.
