The minister has instructed officials to prepare for potential food supply disruptions. This directive came during a high-level review meeting at the secretariat, addressing concerns about deficient rainfall due to El Nino.

He emphasized the importance of safeguarding food security for millions of beneficiaries. Plans must be in place to ensure continuous supplies, even if natural calamities affect future agricultural seasons.

The minister also considered distributing essential items, including wheat flour, through the Public Distribution System (PDS). This measure aims to protect households from potential price increases.

Officials presented financial projections for various distribution methods, including subsidized rates. Commodities discussed for inclusion were wheat flour, red gram, palm oil, sugar, tamarind, and chilli powder.

The department was tasked with calculating beneficiary quantities, procurement logistics, and the financial implications. This comprehensive proposal will be submitted to the state cabinet for a final decision.
