Excise officials in Nalgonda district have started an illegal collection drive over the past two days. This collection activity has commenced across the entire district.
Officials are demanding three to five liquor bottles and Rs. 10,000 in cash from every shop, bar, and restaurant. These demands are causing concern among business owners.
Business owners stated that if they resist or say they cannot pay such large sums, officials are using their authority to intimidate them. There are allegations of misuse of power by the excise department.
The wine market is currently experiencing a slowdown. Local traders said these collections are adding an extra burden on businesses during this difficult period.
