Residents of Nallagandla in Cyberabad are actively modifying their layouts to facilitate the direct recharge of rainwater into the ground. This initiative aims to bolster groundwater levels and mitigate potential water scarcity in the future.

According to the Hyderabad Mail, residents have also appealed to local authorities to halt what they describe as illegal commercial groundwater extraction in the area. They believe this measure is crucial to prevent the depletion of groundwater resources.

The Mana Nallagandla Welfare Association (MNWA-TG), a registered Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA), has formally communicated its concerns to the Cyberabad Municipal Commissioner, the Rangareddy District Collector, and the Director of the Telangana Ground Water Department.

The Association is encouraging residents to create a “Sponge Community,” a concept designed to help collect and infiltrate rainwater back into the earth.

As reported by the Hyderabad Mail, association president P. Jalendar Reddy indicates that forecasts predict a stronger El Niño, which is expected to reduce and disrupt the South-West monsoon. He further states that Cyberabad’s hard-rock granite and gneiss geology does not easily recharge aquifers without sustained rainfall.

These actions are significant for residents in Nallagandla, Telangana, as they aim to prevent future water shortages and conserve vital groundwater resources, contributing to regional water security.
