Prakasam district is facing a severe agrarian crisis, with nearly 85% of its normal kharif sowing area remaining uncultivated due to drought. This has left thousands of farming families and agricultural labourers without income.

Against a normal sowing area of 55,774 hectares, crops were raised on only 8,642 hectares, accounting for just 15.46% of the target area.

The impact extends far beyond crop losses. Shrinking farm activity has slowed village economies, while drinking water shortages, fodder scarcity, and rising food prices have added to the burden.

Even the limited area brought under cultivation has suffered extensive damage, with prolonged dry spells causing crops to wither.

This situation is a major concern for thousands of farming families and agricultural labourers in Prakasam district. The lack of income and rising essential prices are jeopardizing their livelihoods.
