A retired Army officer, Mohammed Aleemuddin, died by suicide on Friday in Hyderabad's Hussaini Alam area, shooting himself with a licensed pistol at his residence.
According to preliminary information, family members and neighbors alerted the police after hearing a gunshot from the house.
Upon checking, Aleemuddin was found dead in a pool of blood.
The Hussaini Alam police reached the spot and have taken up the investigation.
The body was subsequently shifted to Osmania General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
This incident has raised concerns in Hyderabad regarding the safety and responsible use of licensed firearms within the city.
