A retired employee from the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana region has fallen victim to an online scam, losing ₹38 lakhs. Cybercriminals entrapped the elderly man under the guise of friendship and subsequently siphoned a large sum from his bank account.
According to an Eenadu report, the fraudsters initiated contact with the retired employee online. They sent messages claiming their opinions aligned, expressing enjoyment of his friendship, and stating they were learning many lessons from him.
The scammers then requested a photo from the grandfather, who was just entering the smartphone era. These messages, as reported by Eenadu, made him feel delighted.
Immediately after the grandfather sent his photo, lakhs of rupees were withdrawn from his bank account. The money was then transferred to the other person, Eenadu stated.
This incident underscores the critical need for caution when engaging in online interactions. Elderly individuals, in particular, must remain vigilant to avoid becoming targets of cybercriminals.
