The Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to Sandip Ghosh, an accused in the RG Kar rape and murder case. A division bench comprising Justice MM Sundresh and Justice Prasanna B Varale issued the order.

The court cited Ghosh's prolonged incarceration and the slow pace of the trial as reasons for granting bail. The bench observed that the trial process in the case had been delayed.

Sekhar Debnath, the father of the victim, expressed strong disapproval of the Supreme Court's decision. He told mediapersons that he would fight until justice is served for his daughter.

Debnath announced that he would initiate a fresh movement in the state for justice. He stated that he would take to the streets if necessary to protest the bail decision.

He also clarified that political circumstances would not deter him from seeking justice for his daughter, even though his wife, Ratna Debnath, is a legislator of the ruling party.

Sekhar Debnath emphasized that his wife's affiliation with the ruling party does not matter in his pursuit of justice. He reiterated his resolve to continue the fight.
