Rice prices are climbing in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, putting a strain on common and middle-class families. A 26 kg bag of rice has seen an increase of Rs. 500 to Rs. 700.
The main reason for this price hike is the El Niño phenomenon, which has resulted in reduced rainfall and lower crop yields. This has affected the supply of rice in the market.
In addition to the decreased harvest, business strategies by rice dealers and the creation of artificial scarcity are also contributing to the rising prices. Consumers are expressing concern over this trend.
As rice is a staple food and an essential commodity, its daily price increase is causing distress among the public. Traders indicate that the price of fine rice per kilogram is nearing the Rs. 100 mark.
