Rail passengers have appealed to the Railway Board and South Central Railway (SCR) to enhance amenities and ease congestion at Secunderabad Railway Station. Their request comes as the Dasara festival approaches, with calls to expedite long-pending infrastructure projects.
Among the key demands are the diversion of certain trains, the introduction of additional stoppages, improved MMTS services, and the provision of safer, less crowded platforms. Commuters believe they deserve better facilities as a festive gesture.
While acknowledging the efforts of Secunderabad Divisional Railway authorities in managing the heavy festive rush and operating special trains, citizens have raised concerns about the current state of the platforms.
They noted that construction materials, machinery, and escalator spare parts are occupying portions of the platforms, thereby restricting walking space and limiting seating options for passengers.
Noor Ahmed Ali, president of the Long Trains and MMTS Travellers Association, has urged railway officials to assess the feasibility of rerouting approximately 40 percent of suitable trains via Malkajgiri towards Kazipet and Nalgonda.
The association also requested that certain express trains be given stoppages at Charlapalli and Malkajgiri stations. This measure aims to distribute passenger traffic and reduce the strain on Secunderabad railway station.
