The construction cost of Singareni's new plant is projected to reach Rs. 9,697 crore by 2024-25, Eenadu reported. Discoms have clarified that the cost of generating one unit of electricity from this plant will be Rs. 5.61 in the first year itself.
According to Eenadu, an additional 60 paise per unit will be incurred for electricity line rental costs. This further increases the overall production cost.
Eenadu stated that the average investment cost per megawatt is estimated to be Rs. 11.99 crore. This high investment cost will impact the financial viability of the plant.
These high costs are likely to burden electricity consumers in Telangana. If discoms have to bear these expenses, it could lead to an increase in electricity charges.
