The Soybean Processors Association of India (SOPA) released its first crop estimate for the 2026 Kharif season, projecting a 2.11% decline in soybean production across the country. The total output is estimated to be 107.93 lakh tonnes.

The assessment highlights varied crop conditions in major producing states. Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are expected to see higher yields this season.

However, prolonged dry spells and insufficient soil moisture have negatively impacted soybean crops in Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Telangana. These states are likely to experience reduced production.

Despite an overall increase in the area sown with soybean nationally, drought-related crop losses have led to a reduction in the actual area available for harvesting.

Soybean is a vital oilseed crop in India, supporting both the edible-oil processing industry and the livestock-feed sector. Madhya Pradesh remains the largest soybean producer in the country.

SOPA clarified that this estimate is an industry assessment and does not represent the final government production figures.
