Srikakulam district experienced a rainfall deficit at the beginning of this year's Kharif season due to the El Nino effect. Farmers were concerned as there was no sign of rain until August.
According to an Andhrajyothy report, heavy rains in September proved to be a lifeline for the district's agricultural sector. These rains provided much-needed water for crops.
Despite this, a rainfall deficit persists in 11 mandals of the district. These mandals recorded less rainfall than usual.
Andhrajyothy also reported that three other mandals received more than normal rainfall. This is a positive development for some parts of the district.
While the September rains brought temporary relief to farmers in Srikakulam district, more rainfall is needed to address the deficit in the 11 mandals.
This rainfall deficit is significant for the agriculture-dependent economies in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, as it impacts crop yields and the livelihoods of farmers.
