Task Force police have apprehended Kalpana alias Dharma, the primary suspect, along with three other individuals in connection with the murder of Tanuja Ranjan, wife of retired IPS officer Vinay Ranjan Ray. The arrests occurred in Banjara Hills during the early hours of October 19, 2026.
Tanuja Ranjan, aged 61, who resided in Jubilee Hills Prashasan Nagar, was tragically murdered on May 8. Members of a Nepali gang committed theft at her residence before fleeing the scene.
Police identified Kalpana, who had been employed as a domestic worker in Tanuja Ranjan's home, along with Suresh Shahi, Ganesh Bikas, and Kancha Lama, as suspects. Investigators determined that these individuals divided the stolen property and subsequently escaped to Nepal.
Despite special police teams traveling to Nepal, they were unable to capture the suspects at that time. In a related development, Jubilee Hills police arrested Sunil Paryar two months ago and invoked the PD Act against him.
For the past three months, Task Force police and a dedicated team have been monitoring the movements of Kalpana and other absconding suspects to locate the remaining seven individuals. These surveillance efforts led to the recent arrests.
