The Telangana agriculture department has assigned a traceability project for Tandur Red Gram to TRST01, a Hyderabad-based supply-chain and digital infrastructure company. This initiative aims to reinforce the Geographical Indication (GI) tag for Tandur Red Gram.
The project will map farm plots and cross-reference them with the registered GI area in Tandur. This process ensures that only produce grown by registered farmers within the approved region can claim verified Tandur origin.
Approximately 65,000 farmers who cultivate Tandur Red Gram in the designated area will be included in this project. Digital profiles will be created for each farmer, linking their identity details with land, crop, and harvest records.
A platform will be established to monitor the produce from farm plots through aggregation, processing, and distribution stages. This effort will make the GI identity visible and confirmable throughout the entire value chain.
Prabir Mishra, founder and CEO of TRST01, stated that this endeavor would connect farmers, origin, quality, and markets. The company received the notification of award under the NeGPA 2025-26 scheme.
Tandur Red Gram, also known as Tandur Toor Dal, secured a GI tag in December 2022. This project is expected to further strengthen its authenticity and market value.
