The Telangana government has initiated robust measures to prevent a drinking water shortage in Hyderabad. With water levels in reservoirs gradually decreasing due to the El Niño effect, plans are in place to ensure no inconvenience to the public.
Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju held a review meeting on Tuesday with senior officials from GHMC, Malkajgiri, and Cyberabad Municipal Corporations. The meeting focused on water supply and availability in the region.
Currently, Hyderabad receives approximately 560 MGD of water from Osman Sagar, Himayat Sagar, Manjeera, Krishna, and Godavari. The government has formulated a precise plan to mobilize an additional 60 MGD of water.
Despite low water reserves in the reservoirs, the Chief Secretary directed officials to efficiently utilize available resources to prevent any difficulties for the public.
The government has urged citizens to prevent water wastage and use treated water. A 60-day awareness campaign on water conservation will also be conducted.
Alternative arrangements have been planned for districts dependent on Manjeera. These measures aim to ensure an uninterrupted supply of drinking water to the people of Telangana.
