The Telangana High Court on Thursday directed the state government to submit an affidavit detailing the measures taken to prevent a recurrence of the fire accident at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Adilabad. Five infants died and 22 others were injured in the tragic incident.

A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice P. Sam Koshy and Justice Suddala Chalapathi Rao issued these directives.

The court specifically directed that the affidavit be filed by an officer not below the rank of secretary.

The matter has been adjourned to November 5 for further hearing and compliance.

These directions came in response to two interlocutory applications filed by senior advocate Chikkudu Prabhakar. These applications were part of a pending public interest litigation concerning fire safety in government hospitals.

This directive underscores the importance of public safety in government institutions and pushes the Telangana government to enhance fire safety protocols in hospitals across the state, aiming to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
