The Telangana government is set to reintroduce traditional drum announcements in villages to inform residents about water scarcity. This action plan has been developed to address the water shortage exacerbated by El Niño conditions.

Field-level officials have received directives to conduct drum announcements in all villages following the festive period. The state government is launching this rural awareness campaign to safeguard villages from the impacts of climate change, water scarcity, and potential electricity crises.

From after Dussehra until Diwali, gram sabhas will hold discussions focused on water and electricity conservation. Special village assemblies will be organized in each village to gather all residents and foster collective awareness.

During these gatherings, methods for protecting groundwater levels, along with drip and parallel irrigation techniques, will be explained. Simple approaches to reduce wastage of both domestic and agricultural electricity will also be detailed by field officers.
