The Telangana government is planning to establish a 14-month buffer stock of food grains to mitigate the impact of El Nino, which could lead to drought, crop losses, and increased prices.

This initiative aims to safeguard 3.42 crore Public Distribution System (PDS) consumers by ensuring uninterrupted supply of essential commodities. Officials have been instructed to prepare detailed plans for this purpose.

The Minister for Civil Supplies and Irrigation, N., directed officials to develop strategies for procurement and storage. This is to prevent any disruption in supplies, even if there is a rainfall deficit in the upcoming agricultural seasons.

The government's plan focuses on strengthening its food grain reserves to protect citizens from potential hardships. The minister emphasized the importance of maintaining smooth distribution of essential goods through ration shops.
