Electricity consumers in Telangana will have to bear an additional burden on their monthly bills starting November 2026. These extra charges are being levied following a decision by the Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission (TGERC).

According to Telangana Today, the TGERC has finalized a recovery mechanism to collect a total of Rs 5,420.23 crore from non-agricultural power consumers. This will be implemented through DISCOMs starting November 2026.

These additional charges will be levied at 30 paise per unit in the first month and 50 paise per unit in subsequent months. These amounts will be included in the electricity bills.

The TGERC finalized this mechanism to recover Rs 7,635.22 crore towards power purchase and revenue 'True-Up' amounts for the financial years 2022-23 and 2023-24. These amounts will be collected through the two State-owned DISCOMs, TGSPDCL and TGNPDCL.

As reported by Telangana Today, this decision was announced on October 6, 2026. It will have a significant financial impact on electricity consumers across the state.

This additional burden will affect all residential and commercial consumers in Telangana, leading to an increase in their monthly electricity expenses. This could also have an indirect impact on the state's economy.
