The Telangana Human Rights Commission (TGHRC) has intervened after a woman from Rajanna Sircilla district in Telangana alleged that doctors at the LV Prasad Eye Institute operated on her wrong eye. Her family members claim the surgery was performed on the incorrect eye.
According to The South First, family members of the Sircilla woman allege that doctors at the LV Prasad Eye Institute performed surgery on her right eye despite plans to operate on the left.
The hospital, however, disputes negligence. The South First reported that the hospital stated the patient had pterygium, a growth of tissue on the surface of the eye, in both eyes.
The doctor said the condition was graded at approximately grade 3 in both eyes, but the right eye had more scarring, as reported by The South First.
The hospital maintains that the right eye had greater scarring and that the patient consented to the procedure. The TGHRC has sought a detailed report regarding these allegations.
This incident raises concerns about patient safety and medical negligence within healthcare institutions in Telangana, a significant issue for the state's residents.
