Tomato growers in Annamayya district staged a protest and blocked a road due to a price crash in the Gurramkonda market. An 18-kg box of tomatoes is currently selling for only ₹300.
Farmers expressed their distress, stating that prices in neighboring markets are higher, while they are receiving meager returns. This disparity is causing losses for them.
In response to the plummeting prices, the farmers resorted to blocking the road to draw attention to their plight. They demanded that the government address their concerns immediately.
The growers are specifically requesting the establishment of a procurement center linked to the Madanapalle yard. They believe this would help ensure a support price for their produce.
Farmers urged the government to take swift action to bridge the price gap and provide them with fair compensation. They warned of continued protests if their demands are not met.
Officials have not yet responded to the farmers' demands. The community awaits the government's decision on this matter.
