A birthday celebration turned tragic for a family at Tank Bund in Hyderabad, as a child and her relative died after being hit by a truck around 2:30 AM.
According to Domalguda police, the six-member family arrived at Tank Bund in a car and parked their vehicle near one of the statues on the bund.
While the girl's father and other family members were busy taking out the cake and other paraphernalia, Viswanth, 40, a relative, began to cross the road with the child to reach the other side, abutting the water body.
A truck, moving from the Ranigunj side, hit the two pedestrians when they were in the middle of the carriageway, The Times of India reported. They suffered grievous injuries and were rushed to the hospital, but both succumbed while undergoing treatment, Domalguda sub-inspector Jyothi told The Times of India.
The family, residents of Alwal, had gone to a movie at a mall in Kukatpally for the girl's birthday. After the second show, they traveled all the way to Tank Bund to celebrate her birthday.
This incident highlights concerns about road safety in Hyderabad during late hours, urging residents to exercise caution, especially when out for celebrations or special occasions.
