Tribal farmers cultivating cannabis in the Chitrakonda block of Malkangiri district, Odisha, have voluntarily destroyed their crops. This action follows awareness drives conducted by the Odisha police.
According to Andhrajyothy, tribal farmers from Alluri Sitaramaraju district, influenced by the Odisha police's awareness campaign, cut down and destroyed their cannabis plantations.
Andhrajyothy reported that cannabis cultivation and transportation are prevalent in various villages within the Chitrakonda block of Malkangiri district.
Andhrajyothy stated that Eagle teams from Andhra Pradesh, operating along the border, collected information on cannabis cultivation and storage and provided it to the Odisha police.
Based on this information, Malkangiri district police conducted awareness programs in the respective villages.
This development is a positive sign for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, as cannabis is often transported from Odisha to these states. A reduction in cultivation will likely lead to a decrease in illegal trafficking.
