A young man in Jogulamba Gadwal district died by suicide after allegedly being harassed by the police, sparking widespread outrage. Kurva Veeresh (28), from Booreddypally in Dharur mandal, consumed pesticide after reportedly being subjected to unprovoked assault and extortion by police.
Veeresh, who had previously contested as a sarpanch candidate, was recently called to the police station by an SI and other officers regarding a case. He alleged that he was assaulted without cause and had money taken from him.
Veeresh expressed his anguish on social media, stating that he was tortured by the police despite not committing any wrongdoing and could not bear the humiliation. Four days after posting this message, he consumed pesticide.
Following his death, leaders from the BRS party and various public organizations expressed strong condemnation. They staged a large protest in Gadwal, demanding justice for Veeresh's death.
There is significant public outcry against the conduct of the police. Citizens are urging the government to take immediate action to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.
