The INDIA bloc held its "Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao" rally against the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan on Sunday. Its main demand is the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Telangana CM Revanth Reddy took part.
What Revanth said
- He claimed 13.5 crore votes have already been deleted nationwide and that another 20 crore could go in the coming days, mostly those of poor voters.
- He said many people came to Delhi despite no special trains, and urged everyone to check that their name is on the roll.
- Before the rally, at Telangana Bhavan in Delhi, he said, "Our army of monkeys has arrived to defeat Modi, the Ravana," according to ANI, citing a release from his office.
Deccan Chronicle listed Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Mamata Banerjee, Akhilesh Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav and Hemant Soren among those who joined or were expected at the rally. There is no official headcount.
The BJP side
State BJP president N Ramchander Rao said on October 25 that the rally aimed to spread falsehood and hatred, and likened the CM's Delhi trip during a rainfall deficit to "Nero fiddling while Rome burnt". To counter the Congress campaign on SIR, Union Home Minister Amit Shah walks from the Babu Jagjivan Ram statue at Nizam College to Mozamjahi Chowrasta at 3 PM on Monday, November 2. No BJP response to Revanth's remarks today was available at the time of writing.
