Former India leg-spinner Amit Mishra has been appointed spin-bowling coach of Delhi Capitals ahead of the 2027 Indian Premier League season. Mishra, 43, retired from all forms of the game in September 2025 and will take up a coaching assignment in the league for the first time.
The appointment marks Mishra’s return to the franchise with which he began his IPL journey, this time in a coaching role. When the first season of IPL was held, he was part of Delhi Capitals; he said he is very happy to start his coaching career with the same team.
Across his IPL playing career, Mishra claimed 174 wickets. He holds the record for the most hat-tricks in the tournament’s history.
“I don’t know about legends, but I did really decent in IPL,” Mishra said. He added that Delhi belongs to people with a large heart — “Dilli dilwallon ki hai” — and that returning to DC for his first coaching stint in the league meant a lot to him.
Delhi Capitals have brought in a specialist with long experience in the league’s spin department as they build staff for the 2027 campaign. Mishra’s role will focus on developing and guiding the franchise’s spin bowlers.
No further details on contract length or whether the role is full-time were announced alongside the appointment. The franchise has not yet released the full coaching structure or other support staff names for the upcoming season.
IPL 2027 dates and Delhi Capitals’ retained or acquired player lists will be confirmed closer to the season as the league and teams finalize their calendars and squads.
Mishra stepped away from playing in September 2025 after a long career that included his years with Delhi Capitals from the inaugural IPL season. The leg-spinner said his own IPL record gave him confidence to work with the squad’s spinners in a new capacity.
He described the franchise as “Dilli dilwallon ki hai” and said that being with DC when the first IPL season was held, and again as he opens his coaching career, made him very happy. Delhi Capitals named him spin-bowling coach as work begins toward the 2027 season.
