Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has criticized India's cricket team selection strategy. He described the continued omission of young batter Yashasvi Jaiswal from the ODI squad as unfair.

Ashwin urged the selectors and team management to provide Jaiswal with more opportunities ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa. He said it is important to maintain the young batter's confidence.

The former India off-spinner stated that Jaiswal's prolonged absence from international cricket is not justified. He suggested that the final two ODIs could have offered Jaiswal valuable game time, allowing the team to prepare for the upcoming Test series.

Ashwin questioned why Jaiswal was not considered for the remaining matches if Shubman Gill was unavailable. He mentioned the necessity of keeping the left-handed opener involved in the international setup.

Ashwin firmly believes that Jaiswal should have been given that spot. He said that providing young players with adequate chances prepares them for the future.
