Assam's cricket team conceded a first-innings lead to Punjab in their season opener, but their batting recovery has been a source of encouragement for the squad.

After facing an early collapse, losing two wickets without a run and three for 23, captain Denish Das and Sibsankar Roy each scored centuries to stabilize the innings under challenging conditions.

Swarupam Purkayastha also contributed a half-century in the first innings. However, wicketkeeper-batter Sumit Ghadigaonkar could not convert his promising starts in either innings into substantial scores.

Coach Kiran Powar stated that the team's fightback against Punjab's strong bowling attack would boost their confidence. He specifically praised Denish Das's performance.

Powar described Denish Das's batting as outstanding, calling it one of the best innings he had witnessed in a long time. The coach also expressed his expectation for the team's bowlers to improve.

The coach noted that Assam's bowlers allowed Punjab to score 478 runs in their first innings. He emphasized the need for better performance from the bowling unit in upcoming matches.
