Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has advised the national team to focus on enhancing its bowling strength instead of trying to find a direct replacement for Hardik Pandya.
Gavaskar's comments came after the T20I series against the West Indies, which served as an opportunity for India to assess its reserve players.
He recommended that the Indian team should include at least four specialist bowlers. The fifth and sixth bowling options, according to Gavaskar, should be all-rounders.
Gavaskar specifically lauded Naman Dhir's contributions with both bat and ball during the series against the West Indies, highlighting his all-round capabilities.
The West Indies' quest for a first bilateral series victory in India since 2002 remains unfulfilled, as the final T20I match was called off due to rain.
Gavaskar emphasized that the team should concentrate on improving its overall bowling attack rather than getting preoccupied with finding a like-for-like substitute for Pandya.
