Several schools in Hyderabad have shortened the Dasara holidays for students. These institutions are observing fewer vacation days than specified by the School Education Department.
These schools have also assigned students extensive homework to complete during the break. This forces children to spend much of their holiday on school assignments instead of relaxing.
The homework load has effectively turned the vacation into a homeschooling period for many children. They are unable to fully enjoy their time off from regular classes.
This practice has also increased the burden on parents, who frequently need to assist their children in completing the assigned schoolwork.
According to the academic calendar issued by the School Education Department, educational institutions in the state are mandated to observe 13-day holidays for the Dasara vacation in 2026.
The government specified that the Dasara vacation runs from October 10 to October 22, with schools scheduled to reopen on October 23.
