Medical students at Government Medical College (GMC) Jagtial in Telangana began an indefinite peaceful protest on October 7. They are demanding action on delayed campus infrastructure, overcrowded hostels, and a lack of dedicated college transport.
According to a report by Education Times, a letter issued by the students states that the college continues to function from “wholly temporary structures” despite the foundation stone for the permanent campus being laid nearly four years ago.
Construction of the permanent college and hostel buildings remains incomplete, and the institution has no dedicated college transport.
The students have highlighted that a new batch is due to begin shortly, but the campus currently has only three makeshift lecture halls and three laboratories.
Hostel conditions are also congested, with six to eight students reportedly sharing a room, as reported by Education Times.
The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has backed the students’ demands. These issues impact the future of medical students in Telangana, as inadequate infrastructure affects their education and quality of life.
