India's wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has downplayed discussions about his T20I ranking ahead of the series-deciding match against the West Indies. He indicated that his status as a top-ranked T20I batter is not his primary focus.
Kishan expressed his desire to set aside statistics and instead enjoy the pressure of playing in the upcoming match against the West Indies. With the five-match series currently tied at 2-2, the left-handed batter stated he is not concerned about his position in the rankings at this point in his career.
He urged the team to concentrate on preparation, intent, and execution, rather than individual performances or outcomes. Kishan emphasized that the Indian team must collaborate and avoid blaming the pitches.
The start of pre-match warm-ups for the game was delayed due to persistent rain. This match also marks the first international fixture to be held in Bengaluru in two years.
“At this early stage in my life, I don’t want to look into stats or where I stand, whether I’m the number one batter or the number 100 batter. You take it one game at a time and just try to play your best cricket,” Kishan said.
