Mumbai Indians and Mahela Jayawardene have mutually agreed to conclude their tenure as head coach after the 2026 IPL season. The five-time Indian Premier League champions are now preparing for a leadership change ahead of the next season.
This decision follows a challenging 2026 campaign where the franchise secured only four victories. Injuries, issues with player availability, and internal dressing-room disagreements contributed to a difficult season.
During his time with the franchise, Jayawardene led Mumbai Indians to three IPL titles. He is not expected to continue with the team in any other capacity.
The franchise has already identified several potential candidates for the coaching role. Interviews for these candidates are scheduled to take place in the coming week.
