NTPC has committed funds to support the development of archery in India, focusing on both grassroots talent identification and elite athlete development. This initiative will provide training, equipment, scholarships, and competitive exposure to young archers.
The funding will facilitate the establishment of archery academies and coaching programs across several states. This aims to widen access to structured training and enhance the skills of aspiring archers.
Chikitha, a young archer from a farming family in Telangana, exemplifies the potential this support can unlock. Her journey began when her father read about archery in a newspaper, introducing her to the sport.
She started formal training in 2018 and, in 2025, became the first Indian woman to win the Under-21 individual title at the World Archery Youth Championships. At 21, she now competes alongside Jyothi Surekha Vennam.
The program is designed to strengthen India’s pathway to elite competition by identifying talent from various regions and providing them with opportunities to participate in competitive events.
NTPC's commitment supports Indian archery, helping athletes achieve greater success on the international stage. The funds will provide valuable support for their development.
