The CSIR–National Geophysical Research Institute (CSIR-NGRI), Hyderabad, and Manipur University are jointly organizing a training program on seismic hazards. This program focuses on seismic hazard assessment, earthquake studies, and disaster preparedness. The training will run until October 16, 2026.

The initiative aims to strengthen technical skills and regional expertise in earthquake risk management. Given that Northeast India is a region vulnerable to earthquakes and other seismic hazards, this training is particularly crucial.

Manipur University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Hemakumar Singh inaugurated the program. He highlighted the importance of skill development in Northeast India during the inauguration. He also called for expanding such initiatives to encourage participation from colleges and academic institutions across the region.

This training program will help mitigate the damage caused by earthquakes and improve earthquake preparedness in the region. It plays a vital role in enhancing the safety of the people in the northeastern states.

Through this program, awareness of seismic hazards will increase, and disaster management capabilities will improve. This also inspires experts from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to participate in similar programs in the future.
